An initiative has been taken by the inspiring team of The Social Assistance Institution (SAI) for plantation of Mangrove seeds & plants in the vicinity of Sundarban Area. The team has involved the localities whose livelihoods have been severely affected by Covid - 19 pandemic & Amphan & Yaas cyclone. This venture provides an opportunity to earn their livelihood. Moreover, this activity will have an effect on environmental benefits securing the land and enriching the forest for safe and sustainable growth.

We are aware that Sunderbans face natural calamities every year. Cyclones like Aila, Fani, Bulbul, Amphan, Yaas, not only wreak havoc to life and property in these areas, but cause widespread damage to the agriculture sector, breaking embankments, causing saline water to seep into agricultural fields and making irreversible changes to the soil texture. As mangrove trees can survive salty soil and tides and acts as an effective barrier against such disasters by protecting the earthen banks, it is the need of the hour to plant mangrove trees as maximum as possible.  SAI has plan to engage women in mangrove plantation and make them economically self-sufficient.  Further, SAI will make extensive campaign in the area for increasing awareness amongst local people regarding the importance of plantation and protection of mangrove trees in Sunderbans.
